Trust Administration in Phoenix, Arizona
Compass Fiduciary Group provides professional trustee and successor trustee services for individuals and families in Phoenix and Maricopa County. We help organize the responsibilities of an existing trust and provide continuity when a trustee can no longer serve.
When Compass Can Help
You may be planning for a future successor trustee, managing a transition after a death or incapacity, or looking for an independent professional to administer a trust. Families and attorneys can contact Compass to discuss the trust, the proposed role, and whether the matter is appropriate for our firm.
We also discuss existing administrations where asset records, beneficiary communication, or ongoing coordination require professional attention. Acceptance depends on the governing documents, available authority, conflicts, the needs of the matter, and our capacity to serve.
What Trust Administration Involves
The work depends on the trust document and the circumstances. Within the authority of the appointment, administration may include:
- Reviewing the trust and amendments with counsel as needed to understand responsibilities and distribution instructions.
- Identifying trust assets, organizing records, and coordinating the transfer of administration from a prior trustee.
- Maintaining financial records and coordinating appropriate expenses and distributions.
- Working with attorneys, accountants, financial institutions, and other professionals on administrative needs.
- Communicating with beneficiaries about the administration and responding to requests within the scope of the trustee’s responsibilities.
Working With Attorneys and Beneficiaries
Compass handles fiduciary administration and works with legal counsel on questions involving the trust’s terms, legal requirements, or disputes. We coordinate with tax professionals when tax advice or return preparation is needed.
Beneficiaries need understandable information about the process and the status of the matter. We work to establish appropriate communication, clarify what information is needed, and explain administrative next steps. The trust’s instructions and the circumstances guide decisions; an initial inquiry does not guarantee a distribution or a particular outcome.
How an Engagement Begins
- Initial discussion: Tell us why a trustee is needed, who is currently serving, and whether there are approaching deadlines.
- Document and fit review: We identify the documents needed to evaluate authority, scope, conflicts, and the practical needs of the trust.
- Terms and appointment: If the matter is accepted, the role, fees, and requirements for beginning work are addressed before administration begins.
- Transition: We coordinate the records, contacts, and priorities needed to take on the accepted responsibilities.
Prepare for the First Conversation
Have a general description of the trust and its assets, the reason for seeking assistance, the name of the current trustee, contact information for any attorney involved, and any important dates. Let us know whether the trust and amendments are available. You do not need to enter sensitive documents or account details into the initial inquiry.
Compass will explain how to provide documents for review. Please do not submit Social Security numbers, passwords, complete account numbers, or private medical information through the initial contact form.
